A three-stage plan to quit porn: cut off, change, purify

You do not have to finish everything at once. Tick half of a stage and move on. Ticks are stored only on this device. First cut off, then turn, then purify.

Stage one · Cut off Days 1 to 7

Pull out the pipe that keeps pouring mud in. This week is not about practice. It is about one thing: leaving the thought nowhere to land.

  1. Delete every saved video, bookmark and account. Leave the groups that pass explicit content.
  2. Install a content filter and give the password to a family member or friend.
  3. No phone in the bedroom. Charge it in the living room an hour before bed.
  4. Find a partner who will not let you off the hook. Check in daily.
  5. Write down the people, times, places and moods that trigger you.
  6. Pick a nickname here and press Start, so the number begins to grow.

Stage two · Turn Days 8 to 49

The tap is off. Now change the water. For six weeks fill your days with clean things so body and mind get used to life without the stimulus. This is the hardest stretch. Weeks two to four often feel flat and tasteless. That is your senses recalibrating, not failure.

  1. Exercise thirty minutes a day, or do 108 prostrations.
  2. Be in bed before eleven.
  3. Recite the Shurangama Mantra or a Buddha's name daily. Listen along if you have not memorised it.
  4. Confess each night and dedicate the merit.
  5. Practise the three contemplations: mother, sister, daughter.
  6. Write one post on the wall, even one sentence.

Stage three · Purify Day 50 onward

Now you are not only quitting for yourself but for others. Helping one person turn back is the greatest merit and the steadiest guardrail.

  1. Share this site or one article with someone who needs it.
  2. Thirty minutes of sensory fasting a day: no phone, no screen.
  3. Read the Four Clear Instructions on Purity once a week.
  4. Do one good deed: give, help, honour your parents.
  5. Reply to or encourage one newcomer on the wall.
  6. Set a one-year vow and write it into your vow box.
