The layman Zhou Anshi wrote one book against lust and one against killing, holding that these two make up most of the karma of beings. His contemplations go from shallow to deep in six levels: the suffering of entering the womb, the impurity of the body, the filth of male and female bodies, the decay of a corpse into bones, the arising and ceasing of all things as taught in the Lotus Sutra, and finally seeing oneself in a lotus in the Pure Land before Amitabha, vowing to leave the pit of lust forever.
