Sexual misconduct is the root of broken families and disordered society

Sutras and talks · Talk by Master Chin Kung

ⓘ This story is Buddhist teaching and moral literature, offered as encouragement and warning, not a medical conclusion.

Key takeaway
Stopping the act is only the first step. If the thought continues, you have not moved.

Master Chin Kung taught that sexual misconduct is among the gravest of evils. Affairs breed suspicion, jealousy and quarrels, and the children are hurt most, carrying the effect for life. If lustful thoughts are not cut off one cannot transcend the cycle of rebirth, and even reciting the Buddha's name for rebirth in the Pure Land becomes hard. He urged cutting it off in both thought and action: read the sutras to tell good from evil, keep body, speech and mind away from the ten evils, repent sincerely, and dedicate the merit.
