Exhortation texts, drawing on the scriptures, list the sufferings that come to habitual offenders: constant fear of being killed, discord between husband and wife, a widowed spouse, wealth draining away day by day, slander from relatives and friends, many enemies, an unfaithful spouse, and after death a fall into the lower realms. The article quotes the old saying: do not borrow the debt of romance, for what is borrowed fast is repaid fast.
